A year ago, Gordon Mackintosh and Michael Ataman made a pact: one day they’d race a triathlon together. In the meantime, a lot changed. Hewlett Packard Enterprise completed its acquisition of Juniper Networks. Gordon stepped into the role of Worldwide Channel Chief for the networking division. Life accelerated, calendars filled — but the promise never faded.

Today at Zuma Beach in Malibu, they made good on that commitment. They each crossed the finish line of the triathlon they said they would do.

It wasn’t about titles, acquisitions, or milestones. It was about keeping your word, no matter what life throws at you.
